Peer Mentorship

About Peer Mentorship

The Purpose of Peer Mentorship is to create a support system to encourage growth for SWE members through the Big/Little program and ExCEL program. Find out more about each of these programs below! Reach out to peermentorship@swetamu.org with any questions you may have.

About ExCEL

The Excelling in College Engineering Leadership (ExCEL) program is focused on preparing SWEsters for the real world by teaching essential life skills, including budgeting, taxes, 401K, meal prepping, and more! To join the ExCEL program, see instructions below. If interested in developing your leadership skills, join the ExCEL Committee! The committee is composed of workshop leads, who plan events relating to essential life skills, and an engagement coordinator, who is in charge of engaging the students in the program through discord prompts three times per week! Applications for the ExCEL Committee open at the beginning of the semester, but the ExCEL Program is open to anyone at any time throughout the semester!

About Big/Little

The Big/Little program pairs underclassmen with upperclassmen for mentorship, smoothing their transition into college life. If you’re an underclassman seeking advice as you navigate engineering or an upperclassman looking to guide someone’s experience & develop personal friendships in engineering, this program is for you! Applications open at the beginning of the semester.

We focus on mentorship in a casual setting and fostering friendships between engineering students across all class years.

Sri Kuram

Hi! My name is Sri Kuram and I am a prospective chemical engineering student, class of 2027, from Austin, Texas. My journey with SWE began as being a part of the SWE Public Relations committee and helping out with volunteering and planning for activities such as STEMfest and the SWE banquet. I really enjoy photography, reading, running and just hanging out with friends during my free time! I am so excited to be a Peer Mentorship Co-Chair for the 2024-25 year, as I have learned so much from my peers and I am excited to pass on the knowledge and I'm looking forward to working with new people!

Ruthie Sloan

Howdy, my name is Ruthie Sloan and I am an electrical engineering major, class of 2025. Whoop! I have been involved in SWE for 3 years. My freshman year I was a SWElites Service Committee member, a Service counselor my sophomore year, and a SWElites co-chair my junior year. I’ve also been a part of the socials banquet committee for the past 2 years. This year I have the pleasure of serving as a Peer Mentorship Co-chair. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for SWE this year and what we can accomplish!
